Daydream Believer
Over the weekend, because our lameness has reached all new levels, Ron and I were searching through movies on Comcast's OnDemand, which let tell you, has tons of movies that nobody wants to watch. Anyway, we wound up finding a series of old episodes of The Monkees. Little known fact about me: huge Monkees fan. Specifically when I was about 10, 11 and the show was in reruns over the summer. I made my dad take me to a concert in 1986.
Anyway, turns out Ron was a fan back in the day as well, and he TOO went to a Monkees concert. Is it kismet that we wound up together? I think so.
So there we are watching the Monkees and I start recalling the obsession I had with Davy Jones, their lead "singer". Eleven year old me was totally in love with him. Even though at the time, he was like 45. I was in love with the 20 year old version of him from the show.
But as cute as Davy is, he's not a tall man. And then I thought, isn't that funny! When I was 11 I was in love with a short man and then! Then I wound up marrying one! Funny!
But then, THEN I realized it went even further than that. Here is my husband:

Ignore the crappy photo quality.
Here is Davy Jones*:

Similar, no? Okay, maybe it's hard tell in the photos, but watching the Monkees Saturday night, I realized. I realized I married my own Davy Jones.

Concert
Can I tell you how much
this excites me? It excites me very much. I am a crazy Counting Crows fan (did you know that about me? The URL address of this blog is taken from a title of one of their songs) and would go just to see them. But that there is Maroon 5 and Sarah Barielles is just gravy.
I haven't been to a concert in years. I don't even remember when the last one was. I think I need to go to this one.

Weird Pairing
So people are raving about the pairing of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. I had no idea they were teaming up until I saw
this video this morning. And while some people may love it, I find it disturbing mostly.
What the hell is it? They seem to be walking on treadmills in a disco winter wonderland? And then they're hanging out those weird inflatable windsock people?
It all disturbs me and I don't like the song either.

Just in case you were worried, I have not thrown Rolo out of the apartment on his ear. Despite another crying bender last night. And despite waking up every 2 hours, which would be fine, except he felt it necessary to wake me up too. The kid is lucky I adore him.
But what I'm really posting about and I realize this is old news now, but 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake (and Timbaland, who I just want to hug) have
a song out right now. How did this come to be? When did Justin get street cred? I know he's all cool these days, because he wears sneakers with suits and doesn't shave very often and puts some semi-exotic looking girls in his videos. But he fronted N'Sync for Christ's sake. And 50? He's been shot in the head, like 7 times and I think has done some serious time. How did these two hook up? Is Timbaland that powerful?

Sexy Back
Have you all seen the
Rihanna video for "Umbrella"? I mean the song pretty much blows, but that girl is mad sexy in that video.

Skin
So there's this new radio station, Skin Radio, which is 1340AM. That's right, the oft-neglected AM. It doesn't get awesome reception, but if you go to
www.skinradio.com, the music is pretty cool. Alternative is making a slow comeback to Philly.

Music
So this may totally destroy my street cred (HA!) but I have to comment on some music I'm really digging these days. The video for "
CandyMan"? Love it. Some might argue that she's taking this whole 1940s persona a little too far, but I think it's totally working for her. I love that era and I think she looks fabulous in the video. Plus, it's fun song.
Okay, I know, I know it's all emo and shit but I love me some
Dashboard Confessional. The new song "Stolen" is typical of DC but I love it.
Lastly, I can't seem to get enough of
Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape". You want to think it's a total cheeseball song, yet you just can't help but bop along to it.
I'm going to go bury my head in the sand now.

Good
I'm currently obsessed with
Amy Whinehouse's song, "You Know I'm No Good." I think it's so different than most everything else that's out there right now.
