Commenting

I won't comment whether or not Terri Schiavo, or anyone else for that matter, has the right to decide to die. It's not for me to pass judgement on. I won't comment on the debacle our government and media has made of this case.

What I will say is that, in regard to dehydrating or starving to death, I don't think most of us would allow a dog to go through that.

I'm not commenting on the situation with Terri Schiavo other than to say that it is sad that the family has to go through this turmoil.

I'll add that both Michelle and I have indicated in our Power of Attorney/Advanced Medical Directive that we consider food/water to be life sustaining and would not want it if the case were severe and irreversible.

So while I would not starve a dog, I'd do it to myself. But I think each person has the right to make the decision on his/her own and should do so.

Now is a great time to make sure that you have documented what you would want in the event of an emergency. Not enough people make their wishes known in a legal, written way that would save their loved ones from much heartache and additional stress in an already heartbreaking situation.
